Help the Needy to Get Their Human Outlook Back

The Moscow homeless don’t have a chance to wash themselves, what deprives them of an opportunity to get the minimum help possible. The solution of the problem may consist in using mobile shower units which the Synodal Department for Charity can create with your help.

Nowadays in Moscow free units for sanitary disposal are only used in two out of ten administrative districts. The rest of the homeless have to get to the units by means of public transport where they are not allowed to enter because of their outlook. So, it looks like an endless circle): it’s impossible to wash oneself unless one reached the unit; there’s no chance to get there if he didn’t wash oneself. Going on foot also turns to be troublesome. First of all, the majority of the disadvantaged are of other towns and orientate rather badly in an unfamiliar city. Secondly, because of their constant being on the move, they suffer from the puffiness of the legs and can hardly walk. At last, winter temperature in Russia is not favorable for walking on long distances.

The Synodal Department for Charity worked out a project intended for making mobile shower units for the homeless to maintain hygiene, which would support the work of the city sanitary centers. According to the project, several special car trailers produced by Ural machinery plant are required to operate as mobile shower units. Every trailer is supplied with a container filled with water of about 1500 liters, a pump, shower cabins for 8 people and water flow heating elements for every shower unit. Also there’s a changing room and the necessary heating for working in winter. One shower unit will be able to serve up to 80 people for a day. The production, delivery to Moscow of such a van and its launching will cost 30 thousand dollars (US).

Besides, a disinfecting car is required for treating the people’s clothes from parasites. It costs 33 thousand 300 dollars /USD/ (the delivery is not included), the equivalent of it in the Agency for State Reserves is evaluated as 11 thousand 667 dollars /USD/ (the delivery is not included). As a result, at a conservative estimate, the capital investment will present 41 thousand 635 dollars (USD) with account of only one mobile shower unit.
