Bishop Panteleimon of Orekhovo-Zuyevo (Arkadii Viktorovich Shatov)

Bishop Panteleimon of Smolensk and Vyazma (Arkadii Viktorovich Shatov) was born on September 18, 1950 in Moscow.

In 1968-1970 he served in the Army.

In 1971 he got married.

In 1974 he was christened.

In 1977 he entered Moscow Theological Seminary and was taken on the second course at once.

On August 26, 1978 he was laid hands upon for ordination to the Diaconate  by Archbishop Vladimir (at the moment Metropolitan of Кiev and All Ukraine). He moved to the correspondence course of Moscow Theological Seminary and was sent first to parish ministry to Moscow and then to Moscow region, to serve in a Church of  Nikolo-Arkhangelskaya village.     

On April 15, 1979 on the celebration of the Entry of Our Lord into Jerusalem he was laid hands upon for ordination to the elder by Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna, and was appointed rector of Trinity Church in the village of Golochelovo, Moscow region. In 1984 he was transferred to the Church of the Tikhvin icon of the Most Holly Mother of God in Stupino to become the second priest; in 1987 he was transferred to the Church of the Smolensk icon of the Most Holly Mother of God in Grebnevo. 

In November, 1990 he was appointed rector of the Church in the name of  Saint Tsarevich Dimitry at City Hospital № 1. St. Dimitry’s Community was established here. 

In 2002 he became a chairman of Moscow Diocese Commission for Church Social Work.  Since 2005 he has been a vice-chairman of Board of Trustees founded by Metropolitan of Moscow in Hospital in the name of Saint Aleksey.

He was elected chairman of Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Ministry by Holy Synod on March, 5.

Then, on May 31, 2010 he became a vicar of Moscow Diocese with the title of Orekhovo-Zuyevo.

On July 17, 2010 in the Chapel Church (dedicated to St. Philaret the Merciful) of Patriarch’s Chambers in Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, he took the vows of small shema by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and given a name in honor of a holy martyr and healer Panteleimon.

On July 18, 2010 during the Minor Entrance of Divine Liturgy in Assumption Cathedral of Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius he was ordained by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill to be archimandrite.

On August 20, 2010 archimandrite Panteleimon was given a title of bishop. In August, 21 after the Divine Liturgy on Reverends Zosima, Savvati and German Solovetsky’s day celebration His Holiness Patriarch Kirill   headed the consecration of archimandrite Panteleimon to bishop of Orekhovo-Zuyevo, vicar of Moscow Diocese.

At the direction of Holy Synod of  March 22, 2011 (magazine № 14) he was appointed to Smolenskaya and Vyazemskaya cathedra with saving the position of chairman of  Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Ministry.

He is a widower, has four married daughters and fourteen grandchildren.
